A Tender Act of Rebellion is a watercolor painting about queer identity and living your truth. For me, tentacles represent the idea of deviance, or what is socially understood as deviant behavior. In this piece they lovingly cradle the skull, like the way that our identities and our community hold us together. Peony blossoms are growing through the piece to symbolize the joy of being – peonies start as such tiny little flower buds, but once the bloom their joy simply cannot be contained. Peonies are unapologetically themselves.
