Been wanting to draw the Bois™️
William Zorach Snowy Landscape Watercolor on paper laid to board
My love for you grew day by day, filling my chest and causing my heart to swell, but I knew it wasn't to be.
When I realized how close my heart was to bursting I asked you to break it, and you were so sweet and soft, the cracks spread from your tender fingers dancing like gold and filling the space.
It was so beautiful I could almost pretend there was nothing wrong, I hid the spreading cracks from you until the gold was replaced with mud and the pieces became too tiny to reassemble.
I hid the mess from everyone, but you came into that room where my heart is stored and opened up the windows. The fresh air and light was too much for the fragile structure and it shattered into jagged edges that cut me from the inside.
I couldn't breathe. Pain closed like a hand over my face and mouth, pushing me down. Forcing the shards deeper into my aching chest.
Agony, so strong I would do anything to stop it. I wanted to cut myself, to remove the splinters with blood and tears and throw them away like garbage.
I was so close to the edge, but you, beautiful soul, fluttered down on feathered wings and stayed my hand. Then, despite my best argument, you began to pull the pieces out one by one.
You gathered every speck into a golden bag as I watched. Your fingers were raw and bleeding from the task, I tried to stop you, but I had no voice. It was all lace and gauze and guts.
Finally, the bag was filled and with sliced up fingers you replaced it to my chest. Gold filled my veins, spreading and healing. My heart still broken, yet my soul at rest within myself.
Soon, flowers bloomed along my skin and my eyes were bright again, the only thing that stopped me from rejoicing in the newfound freedom was the fear for my Angel's health.
I took your hands in mine and gazed deep into the windows of your temple, and I caught a glimpse of a heart veined with ebony and Jade, broken more than my own but healed all the same.
We were apart, but together. I smelled hope like raindrops pouring down my face. I was alive.
