The Handmaid’s Tale - 1x03 // 4x07
Disorientation was to be expected when she told Luke not to call immigration on Serena Joy. Hell, June herself was stupefied with the way the events of yesterday had played out. She’d be lying to everyone, including herself, if she said she hadn’t been consumed by conflicting emotions since Serena turned her weapon on that guard instead of her, the woman who savagely murdered her husband with her bare hands. ‘I didn’t want to,’ June thought back on the words she uttered to Serena in the barn, and thought about how they contested everything she had said and felt up until that moment. Because she did want to. She wanted to kill Serena, as she did Fred. She wanted to watch her suffer.
She wanted to take pleasure in it.
What changed?
Maybe it was just her empathy returning to her, after years of feeling nothing but unbridled rage, the presence of a newborn baby and a woman in distress was enough to jump-start her own humanity once again. But that didn’t feel quite right, considering that rage she felt was still there. Maybe she never truly wanted to kill Serena at all, and it was the seething anger that clouded her principles. Did Serena deserve to be left alone in that barn to watch her baby starve while she died of sepsis? If you had asked June that question a few days ago, it would have been a hard yes. But seeing that little baby, baby Noah, in Serena’s arms and the smile on her face - she knew that child needed her.
It was a surprise to not only Luke and Moira, but to June herself, that she wanted to return to the hospital today to check on the new mother… her abuser. The woman who put her through fucking hell for years. She wanted to check on her. It was laughable, and June did laugh, in fact, to herself as she made her way inside of the hospital at the sheer madness of it.
As the former handmaid approached closer down the hallway toward Serena’s room, apprehension trickled in, made her palms a bit sweaty. She couldn’t say that seeing Serena’s face alone didn’t bring back some unyielding feelings, because it most certainly did. But the look on Serena’s face yesterday was a lot different than any other looks she had been used to seeing upon her former mistress’s face. Anguish, fear, and tenderness were not looks June was accustomed to seeing on a woman as nefarious as Serena Joy.
But as June approaches the room, she can see Serena in her hospital bed, holding baby Noah in her arms and she just looks so… happy. June believes today and the day Noah was born were the only times she’s ever seen her truly happy. June can feel her lips tug upward into the smallest of smiles before she realizes she’s standing in the doorway like a weirdo.
The backs of her knuckles give the halfway open door a few knocks to gain the attention of the mother, “Hey. I just - I came to see how little Noah was doing, they got him out of the NICU pretty fast, huh?” An awkward smile forms on her face, and she recognizes how uncomfortable she feels to be here, but she just… she needed to make sure everything was going to be okay.

@waterfrd asked: “ we have so many things under our control as human beings, and magpies will never be one of them. ”
"ARE YOU REFFERING to my unusual companion, Mrs. Waterford?” Asriel couldn’t help but smirk gently, glancing at the snow leopard that lied by the occupied armchair. She, Stelmaria, only moved her ears, perfectly pretanding as if to be just an ordinary animal. Very dangerous one, none the less. His thirst for exploring worlds were stronger than a concern what the otherworldly people would think of her, nerver leaving his side. And this world... in a teriffying way was resambling his own. The more he wouldn’t dare to mention the true nature of his and Stelmaria’s relationship.

“So, about that invasion last week...” V sighed out as she shifted her weight to prop herself up against the nearest flat surface. “Does anyone else felt...I dunno, a little off their game? Slightly discombobulated?”

Something was very off. Oh most definitely. It was a normal day at first, until the man felt like some presence you couldn’t see was either trying to change the structure of his history or simply erase him from existence. “Ugh.. What’s going on?” Lee then began to notice people either changing or ceasing to exist all around him all of a sudden.
He realized what was going on.. At some point in the past someone had changed the timeline, creating an anomaly. Lee had to focus, sense where the timeline either started being different or was strongly different from the history he knew. So that he could go back in time to work out what had changed things, then change them back to normal.
Got it! Lee had pinpointed the time point to go to, instantly disappearing and reappearing within that time point. Technically him being here was an anomaly, he was an anomaly. However, he considered this entire changed time period an anomaly. He was about to begin his investigation, but that pain from the timeline trying to deal with him returned.
Lee’s attention then switched to situation he sensed, it seemed that crime still existed in this changed timeline. A thug was attempting to murder a woman, that wasn’t going to work out. He disappeared and reappeared at the scene as the thug’s gun trigger was pulled, catching the bullet, crushing it in his hand and then punching the thug out cold.
The man’s attention slowly shifted and focused on the woman, still in slight pain due to fighting off changing or ceasing to exist all together. However, Lee still managed to politely smile towards the woman for the current moment in time. “Hey.. Are you alright?” She probably had questions, he was working out how best to answer whatever the questions may be.

Damon tilted his head as he watched her. He’d fled to Canada when everything had started to go south simply because he wasn’t keen on having his immortality found out in a way that could be used against him. That and he didn’t feel like experiencing the cruelty of Gilead. He’d made a home in Canada and even found a way to make himself useful and cure his boredom. It was why he was here and facing this woman. The thing was he wanted to see just how she would react to questions and what she thought. “I suppose for you, you think that negotiations can be made for your freedom and return to your precious Gilead.”
