DR Jart+ Water Fuse Beaty Balm SPF 25 Review

This product has been very highly rated in the beauty world, and with BB creams being all the rage at the moment, Dr Jart was one of the first brands to release such a product. It claims that 'one shade fits all' and that it minimises use for concealer or foundation, whilst hydrating skin, protecting it from the sun and 'controls sebum production from sweat, preventing streaking' (as stated on the boots website).

The product itself is an interesting texture, at first when you squeeze it out of the tube it has the same appearance as a tinted moisturiser, but once you start blending it into the skin a water-like substance forms, and then sinks into your face. It does leave your skin feeling a bit product-y (yes, I know this isn't a word), but you do feel more hydrated and smooth, which is something that my skin is in dire need of. Soon after it has sunk in, the colour starts to develop. Now, I've used this product a few times. The first time I made the mistake of applying primer beforehand, which once rubbed in made the product go kind of peely and rubby-offy. This made the colour patchy, but I blamed it on the poor blending which is my fault for using a primer, obviously they do not bode well with this product. When used without a primer, all the hopes and dreams of having picture perfect natural moisturised skin seem within your grasp, but alas, such a thing is only a myth. The colour still came out patchy, leaving streak lines all over my neck, and turning me a sort of orangey grey colour. NOT a good look. I tried to even out the tone of my skin using powder and concealer, which worked a little bit but I still felt self concious when leaving the flat with this face. It really is a shame, because the colour is the only thing letting them down, but it really really is terrible. I've also tried using the product as a primer under foundation, but again when mixing with other products, this beauty balm can't handle the pressure and goes into peely-patchy mode. Very disappointing. I wish it could do everything it claimed, and maybe it can for more olive-skinned women, as I have the ability to put a snowman to shame when it comes to a pale skin tone, but the bold claim of one-shade-fits-all is really not proven by the product in the slightest. Overall I would, regretfully, rate this beauty balm 3.5/10 (sorry Dr. Jart!)
