Day 75: in the Port of Laem Chabang, Thailand.
.
Laem Chabang is Thailand’s largest Port and getaway to the wonders of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand and country’s largest city with a population of 8.281 million. The city is a crowded and fascinated place, with severe traffic congestion and a pollution problem. All I know is that I would’t like being an electrician in Bangkok, looking at the cables in the streets. On the other hand, there is so much to see and enjoy. The present city is in total contrast to the riverside orchard of four centuries ago.
.
On the they, we visited the impressive Royal Grand Palace, a collection of very richly ornate buildings covering an area of about one square mile and surrounding by high white walls. The Palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (later Thailand) since 1782. Its asymmetry and eclectic styles are due to its organic development, with additions and rebuilding being made by successive reigning kings over 200 years of history. One of the most important buildings is Wat Phra Kaeo, celebrated for its famous emeral Buddha, which is actually made of Jade. My camera went crazy photographing all the stunning buildings and I was able to enjoy a succulent Thai lunch.
