Celebrating two hundred years of Waverley by Sir Walter Scott, the Edinburgh City of Literature campaign has quotations from the novel peppered around the large railway station in Scotland's capital which shares its name with that world famous novel. Impossible to overestimate the influence of Scott and his writing on Scottish literature and heritage, and it's a legacy which has been shared with a global audience. I've always liked the fact that a moment's walk from this Waverley Station is a colossal Gothic tower that dominates the city centre, and that enormous edifice is dedicated to Scott, not to a general or king, but to a writer. Very civilised

Red Axe, with Waverley Books, has designed this new book, part of the campaign, developed by Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Sir Walter Scott's novel WAVERLEY, and to mark the 10th anniversary of Edinburgh’s designation as the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature.

As part of this campaign, 25,000 copies of this free book – GREAT SCOTT! – will be given away in the station. Telling the story of Scott’s incredible life, the pocket-book includes a timeline, quotes and musings and gives tips on things to see, read and do relating to Scott. The book and campaign celebrate the life and work of one of the world’s most famous writers who was a major celebrity in his time and continues to influence writers today.
