The Dock
You looked sad.
You were standing on the end of the dock, looking upon the lake
As the mist rolled through.
The wind picked up, making your beautiful hair sway.
Though the sky was dark and gloomy, each strand still gleamed in the light.
I walked down the dock towards you
My steps thumping and creaking
On the wooden boards.
I wrapped my arms around your waist
I reached around and gently kissed your cheek.
Your skin was cold, but ever so soft.
I buried my head in your shoulder as we watched the lake.
The waves made the dock gently sway
As if the lake was breathing.
I slowly started to rock side to side with you.
You looked at me quizzically.
The only thing I could do in response was smile and kiss you.
I grabbed your hands
And we began to waltz.
You were so confused; why were we dancing?
There was no music.
So I began to hum.
I made up so many beautiful melodies as we went.
Our eyes were locked, and there wasn’t a chance
For either of us to look away.
The dance concluded, and I pulled you close.
You could feel the warm vibration in my chest
As I continued humming.
I kissed your forehead and told you
That everything was gonna be alright.
We let the waves sway us as we embraced.
You started laughing
Because everything we did just now
Was so ridiculously silly.
I started laughing too,
Because I was so delighted to see you happy.
I love you, and don’t you forget that.
