Day 98 - No Pie

Wayne Gro
Holding it down
McGlinchey's Ale House - Philadelphia, PA - 8:45 pm
.
.
Let's call him Wayne Gro. Though in actuality, I've stolen the name Wayne Gro from a villain in the Michael-Mann-directed Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Danny Trejo, Natalie Portman, Ashley Judd, Dennis Haysbert, Mykelti Williamson, Henry Rollins, Tone Loc, Hank Azaria and Jeremy Piven vehicle, Heat. And yes, all of these people did appear in this movie. Plus, it had the shotgun-wielding bank manager from the opening scene of The Dark Knight who gets his knee blasted off. Whatever his name is.
.
Regardless, it was a landmark movie for a couple of reasons. It marked the first time that Al Pacino and Robert De Niro shared the screen and it was the unfortunate inspiration for this real life post bank robbery shoot out.
.
The McGlinchey's Ale House Wayne Gro looked a lot like movie Wayne Gro. He had the same long stringy hair and he had the same long stringy look that doesn't so much inspire trust or fear as it does sheer discomfort. There's just something profoundly unsettling about a man like Wayne Gro.
.
In the movie Heat, Wayne Gro is a rogue henchman "looking for anything heavy." He's a mercenary for hire, but he's a loose cannon that plays by his own stringy-haired rules. Sure, that might make him a good candidate if you're planning a heist for tomorrow and you need heavy artillery on the fly, but you're going to have to pay the consequences when he decides to wild out and do his Wayne Gro thing. And there's a 100% chance that will happen. Wayne Gro's a long, stringy mixed bag and you just have to be ready for that long, stringy pony to kick you in the chest.
.
I would say with approximately 97% certainty that McGlinchey's Ale House Wayne Gro was the exact same person as fictional real Wayne Gro. This clip doesn't completely show the toughness of Wayne Gro but it does show Robert De Niro getting mad at Wayne Gro over pie.
.
And in this situation, Wayne Gro didn't have any pie stories. Or so he claimed. Which always unsettles me. Like, how can you not have any stories about pies or bets? Surely, you've had or done one or the other in your life. If you haven't, there's something significantly lacking in your upbringing.
.
Like a soul. Wayne Gro had no soul.
.
And you know the rules. No soul, no pie.
.
That's how the pie crust crumbles, Wayne Gro.
