Forgotten Resolutions Challenge
Failure.
April began with a challenge, I was to bounce back from injury and perform a physical feat I had been able to do prior to my injury and all in one month. Based on the timeline and the goal, I have failed. As of this moment I am still unable to do a single one legged squat, however I honestly feel it is not a matter of if but when. I have made much progress and infact have made more progress in several unrelated areas in my life, which I am very pleased to share with you all.
First and foremost I learned what physical level I was at prior to my injury and in that “norm” I was leaps and bounds ahead of what I lost over a year of injury and recovery. In a way it is nice to see comparatively how strong you once were, even at the expense of being weaker now. That will change, now that I both see it and feel it I am consumed by not only attaining the same level of strength I once possessed, but surpassing it… It’s nice to have a burning drive over something again.
This burning drive has spilled over into other areas in my life and I have been able to put my nose to the grindstone and accomplish tasks that I had been dragging my feet on for a while. More and more I am unafraid to take on new tasks and seem to complete each task efficiently and confidently.
I had been wary about re-injuring my knee in speculation that my ambition may have been a little overzealous with such a short timeline. Luckily for me, the training itself was perfect rehab for my injury. Not only had I been making progress in flexibility and strength, but I found my knee to be feeling much better the next day after working out. How lucky is that?!
It is a longer path than expected, but I am still on the path and that is what matters most. Humbled, yes, disheartened, no way. I am looking forward more than ever to be free of injury and pain and with a cool skill to boot. Thanks wayofninja for the initial challenge, I have gained more than I had planned though I still have much more work ahead of me.
