           he had caught her crying over a boy much to shirley’s dismay!  after all, shirley did not like people seeing her cry. alas, she wore her heart on her sleeve.   she had been angry and still was, shirley certainly had her fair share of grudges that she refused to let go of. shirley wished that her sisters were older than they were for it was hard being the eldest living female in their family with the exception of their aunt. ‘ do you really think so, steve? i don’t even want to go to school tomorrow. what will people think? ‘ without a doubt, drama at school should have been the least of her worries after what was said in the paper about their family. ‘ i’m not nellie or luke, i don’t need you to brush up on your lessons from big brother school, by the way. ‘  a beat. ‘ — i wish mom was here. ‘ shirley knew that she was not like a kitten for she still needed olivia. at least, she had her big brother!;

             ❛  i’m --  ❜  continued apologies die in her throat as she holds her hand up. there’s a small cut on the inside of her wrist but it will mostly bruise. it’s nothing serious. it’s nothing to worry about. but when she tears her eyes away from the shattered mirror in front of her, she looks at her son and she feels an ache in her chest at the fear in his eyes. is he scared for her, or of her ? there’s too much noise in her head for her to concentrate and a choked sob breaks from her lips, tears well in her eyes and she closes them slowly. she tries to prevent them from falling, her lips pursing to regulate her breathing because she doesn’t need to scare steve more than she has already.  ❛  i’m so sorry, my love. i didn’t  --  i don’t know why i did that.  ❜  despite her best efforts, her voice breaks as she opens her eyes and reaches out for steve with her uninjured hand, fingers brushing his and she musters a smile she doesn’t quite believe, a smile she doubts he would either.  ❛  i didn’t mean to scare you, honey.  ❜

I’d really love to converse more about a verse where Liv survives the house, but Hugh and her are divorced. But I’d like to know how you feel about the dynamic between Steve & Olivia in this verse?

portrayal questions ! that’s a great question! so basically, you’re right: i have it that they’re divorced, etc. i think, in this verse specifically, olivia and steve would have a very tight-knit relationship. no matter what, he’s her first. he’s her baby boy.  and him and olivia have so many similarities, it’s insane. she’d probably be very supportive of him writing the book, would refer to it as his “coping mechanism” if his siblings ever spoke negatively about it. she’d probably rely on him a lot and go to him whenever she needed to talk. she probably stays with him and leigh a lot, given that she’s still flipping and designing houses, etc. might have even had him help her with some of the projects. overall, they have a very solid relationship and he probably even went to therapy with her, after the house because i do think she needed that. if nothing else, then for the trauma she endured post-house.

She’s wearing the gloves.

She doesn’t always, any longer.  Most days, she can endure the blaring noise of contact with others.  The house, if nothing else, at least ensured she would be strong enough for that.  But not all days.  Bad days --- she only wears her gloves on bad days any longer.

“Yeah, Trish, I’m coming ------” She shouts towards the sound of the doorbell, pushing herself off the couch and heading towards the door.  Covered fingers wrap around the doorknob and only hesitate for a heartbeat.  When Theo twists it and opens, though, she’s surprised to see the face of her brother rather than her girlfriend.  Her eyes go confused, then incredulous; she steps aside, gestures to the inside of her humble home in a teasingly dramatic invitation.  “Well, isn’t this a surprise.  Come on in, though --- is everything okay?”

                    senses  are  set  aflame      as  the  sound  of  tires  rustle  the  gravel  in  the  distance  .  visitors  rarely  ever  came  ;  she  could  only  guess  those  that  trespassed  were  either  stupid  or  intuitive  .  those  that  weren’t  aware  of  this  house  were  eager  ;  those  who  knew  its  secrets  did  not  hold  the  same  enthusiasm  .  her  curiosity  had  led  her  to  the  grand  staircase  that  overlooked  the  front  doors  ,  velvet  robe  splayed  over  the  steps  she  currently  waited  upon  .  the  face  that  made  its  appearance  would  decide  whether  she  chose  to  remain  in  the  open  or  flutter  back  into  the  depths  of  the  house  .  if  the  smile  on  her  face  wasn’t  enough  to  speak  her  decision  ,  the  joy  that  shown  in  her  eyes  was  plenty  .  ❛  you  came  home  .  ❜
