I know this is Tumblr so ppl only care about sports with white men in it lol but I love women's softball so much. I grew up playing it (I miss the hell out of playing it) and I love to watch it. Every spring I grieve and mourn it but I still eagerly watch the games and follow the narratives.
And it finally feels like the sport is browning back up again. There was a period of time where it was a majority of white girls with blonde hair playing college ball but now we have so much more diversity on the teams.
I especially love seeing black pitchers because that's the quarterback position - you gotta be ten times more consistent than anyone else on the field - you make or break the game. I tried pitching when I was young, I couldn't hack the pressure. These women are killing it, I love to see it.
This post is also a love letter to Nijaree Canady. Girl, you got me rooting for a Texas team lol it was a lot more bearable when it was Stanford. I just watched the highlights for their game against UCLA (whom I cannot stand as an organization) and that steal that Texas Tech did to get their first run? Literally gorgeous. I'm in awe. I'm inspired. I wish I was playing so I could be a part of strats like that.
I think this year's wcws is gonna be a hot one. The teams are competing hard. Oklahoma already had one upset, I can't wait to see if they'll finally be defeated. Let's goooo
