The WHAT debuts at Main Street???
Abigail Disney: “Cast members should be treated better and paid a living wage.”
MiceChat: “SLANDER! OUTLANDISH! How dare she claim that cast members deserve to live?”
Between not having any respect for cast members and their newly-found penchant for reporting outlandish rumors (like when they said It’s a Small World could be closing down, then when Disney said it wasn’t true, took credit for saving it -- in other words, they pulled a WDWNT), it looks like it’s time to add MiceChat to my Disney blacklist along with WDWNT.
One licks the company’s boots when the company could do much better, the other has declared war on the company over the company denying rumors that WDWNT created...neither is a good look.
A little birdie told us there are some rumors flying around about our beloved Tiki birds at Walt Disney World Resort. We’re sorry that our fans are being fed incorrect information by unscrupulous sources. While “toucan” play at that
In the span of a week, WDWNT has gone from “polarizing Disney blog” to “yeah, pretty much everyone knows they’re full of it.”
Thanks for “bearing” with us this week. With all of the news we’ve shared, we “fur-got” to mention our friends over at the Country Bears. Our Imagineers are always looking at ways to bring more magic to our guests through experiences and
A lot of people took Disney’s debunking of the Tiki Room rumors as confirmation that we were indeed losing the Country bear Jamboree in favor of a Toy Story marionette show, as the same “unscrupulous” blog had earlier reported, because they had debunked one rumor and not the other.
Now Disney has put that rumor to rest as well, and WDWNT’s credibility has taken yet another high profile hit.
Look...when WDWNT reports on actual things, they’re decent. They cover a lot of actual things that are happening in the parks (as in, things they see when they visit), and their photo reports are fun to read.
But when it comes to them reporting rumors, always remember that, no matter how much of a fit Tom (the guy behind the blog) throws when people say they don’t believe it, and how much he blocks people on Twitter for disagreeing with him, they’re still only rumors. Seriously, Tom Corless runs his blog the way Donald Trump runs the country. He spends more time talking about his detractors than he does actually running the blog, and anyone who disagrees is somehow automatically “fake.”
Far too many people take WDWNT’s reporting as actual fact, to the point that they start petitioning Disney, saying they’re never going to visit again, and otherwise badmouthing the company over false information -- all because some guy with a blog said a thing was going to happen, but provided no evidence to back it up.
There are things to get angry at Disney for. A rumor started by a blog isn’t one of them.
WDWNT?
