It had been Freyr’s first meeting with Desiree, the one he’d nicknamed as Miss Protector. He’d had a feeling that his daughter’s second half didn’t like him as much and he supposed there was logic in her hatred or dislike of him. The accusation hurt him and he stayed silent, thinking what he should say. “I don’t expect you to forgive me, Desiree,” he began. He leaned back in his seat and pondered how he should continue. “At the time, my lifestyle wasn’t...really meant for a little kid or a baby to come along. Most of the late 90s and early 2000s were like blurs in the timeline. I was constantly travelling across the world, drinking, and then waking up with someone new practically every week,” he stated.
As she was about to retort something, the god raised his hand. “So, like, your dislike of me and protectiveness of her is justified. Back then I wouldn’t have been much help to her at all. Had I known that her mother would be this insane bitch, I probably would have stuck around,” he said, thinking. He remembered the woman. She had been one of the more serious attempts of a relationship but his fear of a deep commitment stopped him. The Norse god took a deep breath. “I would have been absolutely useless. Even as a god, if there were people we hated and who deserved to die, in this day and age, you can’t just kill,” he stated. He leaned on his arm and gazed across the table at her.
“So, then, why don’t you tell me the sort of family I left her with? Maybe I couldn’t have done anything back then, but maybe I can help her heal now,”
