Wanderlust, Urban Outfitters, 28$
Ross : This candle was quite vague with what it had to offer. The only things it provided was the scent, ‘Wanderlust’, and the promise of 60 hours of illumination. But who doesn’t get enticed by the scent of "a strong desire to travel”. Before opening it I was expecting some nice pine scents, maybe the forest after a nice rain. What I got was something very different.
Instead of a sharp scent, it was more of an enveloping of warmth. It reminded me of a night in a cabin with a lover, after the fire is out, with only the sounds of the wind blowing through the trees to lull you to sleep.
It exceeded expectations in my opinion. No one would ever confuse this for just another holiday candle. I would love having this candle in my living room, alight while I curl up on the couch with a good book. At 28$, it is a tad pricey, but life is short, treat yourself to a nice candle. You won’t regret it.
Katrina: Wanderlust—a beautiful word, but for me, a candle should make you feel comforted and at home, not wanting to get the hell on the road.
What I smelled was the memory of the reggae concerts my mother used to take me to as a child. Strong herbs that would cozily fit in with the smell of dank weed and grungy-ass dreadlocks on white people who have decided to go ‘au natural’ and proceed to hula hoop for the next five hours while the music plays. The description online reads “spicy patchouli notes,” which in my amateur candle sniffing opinion is right on the money. Overall, it has a nice herby smell that doesn’t come off as cooking herbs or soap, but more like running through a bush of the stuff and having the scent linger on your clothes for a while afterwards.
I would buy this candle for about $10 dollars less than what they are asking. The candle isn’t an unpleasant scent, I actually quite like it, but ‘Wanderlust’ just really reminds me of memories. I can’t imagine placing it in a bathroom or living room, but maybe in the bedroom? Not as something that may inspire romantic endeavors, but more like the bedroom you sip tea and binge on Netflix for half the day in.
