Sorry, this is about the recent TADC drama again-
Note: Don't take what I say to heart since I wasn't there and don't know the full story. No I'm not defending anyone, I just don't like misinformation, and yes, what they said was concerning (but remember, they're real people, and real people have flaws, which is unfortunate- don't put your idols on a pedestal, but also, make sure you're not being fed misinformation (THAT INCLUDES FROM ME, IDK WHAT'S 100% CORRECT, THIS IS SIMPLY OPINION AND SEMI COMMON SENSE BASED)
I'm seeing a lot of "YOU'RE RACIST! NO YOU'RE RACIST! NO YOU!" everyone's targeting each other and forgetting people can still change even if they're adults
I've seen people see the error of their ways if they were racist/ homophobic/ transphobic/ bad people in the past. Unlearning those behaviors takes time but it's possible, and 7 years is a lot of time where you can meet good people and see things differently. It's like people forgot that's what cartoons have been teaching us.
I'm seeing several people take things out of context, spreading misinformation, seeing several people just jumping on the trend of putting tadc as a show down the drain just cuz of this situation
Lots of aggressiveness coming from people calling anyone who says anything like "it was 7 years ago" "they've apologized" or "they've changed" racist as if they're so adamant they have all the context
I don't like when some people are so unwilling to see all sides to a story, it's like you're just attacking people for not agreeing with you immediately. But I've also seen actual racists popping up and being horrible people, so that sucks and I hope they break several bones and learn to be a better person
I've never seen this happen with a fandom before, it's really scary, it's like I'm looking at a bunch of maga people
It's good that the part of the fandom flaming the va's aren't racist, and they understand that racism is bad- cuz it is and it's really dumb- and we've been taught black history and all they've went through and what obstacles they've had and still had to face (they're very much still happening), but I think context is important, and so is thinking about things logically- not assuming things
This was 7 years ago, they were playing some type of jackbox game, they misread someone's username, and it turned into an ironic inside joke- and with jackbox, that kinda stuff makes things funny and embarrassing at the same time, or relatable or something- they didn't mean to say it the first time, but because it was an unfortunate accident, and because they were playing jackbox and streaming/ engaging with the chat, the inside joke was kept on- like comedians do with their bits or like how memes are- which is most likely why they were laughing
Personally, I don't find the inside joke funny, nor would I feel comfortable playing with racist jokes for jackbox games. I understand that several people are offended and disappointed in the tadc cast and Gooseworx, but again, this was 7 years ago (and more from like 10 yrs ago probably), and we don't quite know if they changed or not, but I really don't think that inside joke makes them racist? Just really ignorant, immature, and morally flawed- which if you remember life around 2015-2019 there were a lot of questionable fandom activities going on from fans and creators- though this has always been happening, we've just been getting better at calling out these strange and disrespectful behaviors.
I don't know why people do and say concerning things, mostly white people. They definitely have some sort of internalized racism in them due how they were raised, what media they engaged with, and what their friends beliefs were (which were instilled in them from the same stuff and their parents) (and that's just the "non" racists, there are several racist white people of all ages everywhere)
This whole time I've just been imagining the va's, Goose, and Glitch not caring about this whole situation cuz it really does feel like it's kinda spiralled out of control. Plus, there are a lot of creators and every day people who've been exposed for saying or doing concerning things in the past and regret their actions and have tried to be better people.
We don't know how these people act in real life, we don't know what their friendships are really like. We just know them from tadc, and whatever other games and animated projects they've worked on, and seen how they act in their streams/ videos. I've seen a lot of highschool/ college friend groups, plenty who've made some concerning jokes, but these groups were typically apart of the groups who jokes were aimed at and were saying them in a knowing way (example: a gay group of friends who make gay jokes).
I'm not the same person that I was in middle school, and I'm not quite the same as I was in highschool. I'm 21 now, and I don't know if I'll have things figured out at 23 or even 26. I'm still learning how to do taxes. It wasn't till I was 17-18 entering college that I learned there are different types of autistic people and that I myself am somewhere on the spectrum. My parents aren't quite the same people they used to be when they were in their 40s and they're in their mid 50s now. Unfortunately, they're a little racist and kinda transphobic, but I've had them meet my trans friends and they've slowly been learning their pronouns. We have Hispanic family, and my aunt and my mom are best friends. To be fair, my parents are still hypocritical with these things, but idrk how to fix that 🤷. These are some examples of growth over ~7+ years
Some people change naturally based on changes to their environment and friend groups, some people don't change cuz things stay the same, and some people just don't want to change. We don't know these people, but all this drama feels really forced. Idk. I'm still looking at everyone's opinions, and my brain is still processing. I'm trying to get all the sides. I don't want to just take one side's opinion and agree, especially if the context isn't being taken into consideration.
I feel conflicted about seeing the movie, but Glitch has been working hard on this show, so I'd still like to try to see it. So many great things came out of this story, I think it's beautiful. Plus, an indie animated "movie" getting into theatres all around the world is a big fucking deal for artists
