Killing Fields & S21 Prison

On our first full day in Phnom Penh, we visited the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (aka Killing Fields) and the S21 Prison. These were used in the genocide of Cambodians by their own government during the 1970s, murdering some 20,000 people. In total, 3 million (or 1 in 4) Cambodians were killed. 

It's hard to put our experience and how we felt exactly into words. But like the War Remnants Museum in Vietnam, this has opened our eyes to the important experiences and narratives around us. This is not something you learn in school. 

We encourage everyone to explore different cultures and open your eyes to a world that's much bigger than your own community.

They're humans too

It's so ironic when someone tries to get help from people but since they're not from their country those people treat them like shit but those same people are the ones that talk about equality. So if we are all humans why treat people from another country differently? They're humans too. Not trying to offend anyone.

Fate presents you the opportunity to flee to a first world country and [escape your war torn country/escape the regime of a tyrant/escape your poverty stricken existence/escape living in fear/escape sexism/escape a daily struggle] you have a decision to make. Do you [see hope/see a better way to earn money for your family which will pay for their education, their food, their water, their medical bills, their hope/see a chance to not be condemned for who you are because of religious texts/see a way out/worry that you may be taking the job of a privileged human born to a first world country, whose government has a well established welfare system] think twice? Some humans aren't trying to shaft your government. Have some compassion before reaching for a chance to have a controversial opinion.
