Virtuous Dignity

The elegant white spear was crafted by a tyrant as a gift for his wife-whose parents he had killed years earlier. She slipped it under the bed they shared, then later used it to run him through 30 times.

The spear's second owner was a courageous, bandit-fighting mayor. In her later years, her strength faded, until one night, a pack of young thugs surrounded her and took all that she had-including her life.

The third owner was a greedy merchant who lived to swindle customers. Soon, she found herself shunned and penniless, and so decided to hang herself. The unused spear rested in a corner of her home as decoration.

The fourth owner was a meek young boy who wanted to aid his sickly younger sister. He gave all to this cause - including his very existence and that of all else in the world.

Chaotic Oath, the claws of the Hellhound. Gauntlets forged in Hellfire by the devil himself.

  There was once a terrifying demon who grew bored of Hell. He crawled out of the abyss in search of entertainment and pleasure. He thought it would be fun to play a prank on a human.

  The demon’s pranks were cruel and deadly. Many humans would die in his elaborate pranks and this led them to fear the demon. He continued his dangerous game, until one day he failed. A human had gotten caught one of his deadly traps but had been smart enough to escape. He simply laughed it off.

  When the demon saw this, he was surprised. Intrigued and fascinated, he reached out to the human and the two became friends, eventually falling in love. After that he no longer played pranks on others and he spent his days cherishing the human.

   One day, a second demon crawled out of Hell. He decided to play a prank on a human too. He set up one of the deadliest traps he could think of. It was the first demon and his husband who wandered into his cruel game. The trap killed the human instantly, leaving the first demon with only a scratch. When confronting the second demon about it, he simply asked why he wasn’t laughing.

13. things you said at the kitchen table

“So, um… I think you should meet my dad.”

Prompto looks up from his bowl of Coco Chocobos, an eyebrow raised. He slowly chews the mouthful of cereal before swallowing. “Um… didn’t I already meet him? Twice?”

“Yeah, I guess,” Noctis said. “But, like… those were different, y’know? You were my new friend from school the first time, then a new recruit for the crownsguard the second. This time, you’d be meeting him as my boyfriend.”

“You mean you haven’t told him?”

“No, no, no, I’ve told him,” Noctis says. “He just… I dunno, I guess he just wants to get to know you a little better since, y’know, we’re dating and all. All he really knows is that you like chocobos and taking pictures.”

Prompto shoves another spoonful of cereal into his mouth, humming. “Now that you mention it, those first two meetings weren’t really meetings, were they? More like extended introductions.”

Noctis remembers—his father only had a few minutes between meetings to introduce himself the first time, and the second time he swore Prompto into the crownsguard. He’s positive Prompto never actually spoke more than ten words on either occasion, and everything his father knows about Prompto is from what Noctis tells him.

“You know how I’m supposed to go have dinner with him at the end of the week? Well, he called me and wanted to invite you, if you were up for it. You wanna go?”

Prompto smiles. “Of course I do.”
