“I...” She trails after him. “C’mon, man. I said no.” She realizes he’s not turning back anytime soon. Panic takes over her features and her muscles tense. “I said no!!” With a grunt, she latches onto his sleeve and attempts to pull him away from the door to her basement. What lied beyond that door would destroy her. NO ONE could find out what dastardly deeds lay through that room. Not even him. “I mean it! STOP!”

“Thanks for picking me up,” Ginger exhaled, clambering into his vehicle. Her hands were cold and raw. Her nose was pink from the air nipping at it for so long. She stuffed her bloodied hands into her pockets and bit the insides of her cheeks to keep from letting out a frustrated, hopeless whisper. She could hear her sister’s words ringing in her ears by now. Ginger, what have you done?! 

She simply rested the side of her head against the glass and sighed. She had eaten one of suburbia’s dogs and the only person who could pick her up was Marty. But should she even tell him what went down? Would he look at her like her sister would? She didn’t want to see those pathetic, green puppy dog eyes.

Her breathing was hitched. Her eyes were glazed over with an oxymoron of an anxious serenity.

The bus was rattling and several conversations were going on at once around them, so Marty re-emphasized what he said, louder and firmer. “I already told you what you had asked for, so like I said: impress me.” He was bored enough to start up a conversation with this person but that was back when the bus wasn’t nearly as crowded and the only surefire way to get everyone to shut up wasn’t practical in this situation.

Looking around the bus, Maria knit her eyebrows together and shook her head slightly. This man seemed normal enough, but looks could often be deceiving. And, she never wanted to disappoint. “Uh.. I can say the alphabet backwards...?”
