He shrugged lightly, a mid confussion taking over his features, he had considered his words to be pretty clear. “It means I need proof. But alright, maybe I’m exagerating, let’s give it a week, alright? I mean, this place isn’t 100% harmless, that’s all I want you to understand.”

“Right.. But, how? That’s the  part I’m not totally getting...”  Shaking her head, she looked  up at him and forced a small  smile. “Y’know what? I think  I’m probably just being paranoid  as usual.. And, I know it’s not  100% harmless, but it’s not far  off from it!”

A light smirk spread through his lips, head slightly tilted to the side as he noticed her worry. “Well, I’ll see you here tomorrow morning, and we’ll see how things went.”

“what does="" that mean?!” she repeated,  even more worried about the entire thing.  This was backfiring. Things were blowing  up in her face already and she didn’t even  know what he was insinuating. So much  for acting tough.

Staring right at her, with a complete blank expression all over his features, Ethan took a couple steps closer to the other. “Fine, have it your way. Let’s see how brave you actually are, octopus.”

Well, that didn’t sound reassuring. Maria knit her eyebrows together, clearly a bit worried by what he’d just said. “What’s that supposed to mean..?” she asked hesitantly.

It’s Monday which means the start of my work week. My job has me working every weekday, but I’m always here for a little bit at this time of morning and I usually get home around 5:30-6 pm EST. Just in case you were curious!

He whistled in approval. “That was impressive.” The din had lowered to a dull throb, but he wasn’t sure if it would last for long. “How did you learn that anyways? Curiosity, boredom, some other reason?”

Maria paused and thought for a moment before shrugging excitedly. “Maybe a mixture of all of the above? I like knowing how to do something that not a lot of people can do. And, it’s impressive, as you said.”

Shrugging Ethan crossed his arms, eyes still fully set on the female as he, once again, tried to hold back a smile. “Well– Have it your way octopus, if that’s what you want– I’ll stop trying to help.”

As soon as he said he’d stop trying to help- in a very confident and effective tone of voice no less- Maria’s eyes widened a bit. She stared up at him and nodded a little, pursing her lips. “Fine. It doesn’t even matter.. I’m brave. And I’m not an octopus!”

He shrugs, twirling softly on his heel. “Well— As long as you keep on saying I’m wrong, you’ll keep on being an octopus. That’s just how things work.”  Smirking, his eyes set fully on her once more. “But you know— Since you’re so tough, I guess all my talking is worth nothing.”

Maria hummed softly, eyeing him with a playful air still about her. “Not fair..” she whined again, stomping her foot like a child would. “And, you’re right. I’ll never believe you since you’re wrong. Duh, silly.”

“I think it’s pretty clear what I meant.” There’s another smirk, quickly spreading through his lips, it was impossible for Ethan to keep on trying to hide it. “Nah– I’m never wrong, Miss Octopus, but if you want, you can keep on thinking I’m wrong, it’s your choice, but doesn’t mean it’s true.”

“Yeah, right.” She huffed and rolled her  eyes when he called her an octopus again.  It was so unlike her to be so sassy. “Don’t  call me an octopus!” she whined, pouting up  at him. “And, I will continue to think you’re  wrong? Because you are. I’m tough. There’s  nothing to worry about in the dark.” If only she  actually believed those words.

A soft smirk spread through his lips as he nodded. “Stuffed animals– Somehow, I’m not surprised.” There’s a light shrug at her next words as he takes a step closer. “I know, I’m never wrong. Just like I’m not wrong about the, not stepping out at night thing.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” she teased,  knowing full well that she seemed like the sort  of person who enjoyed stuffed animals. As he  stepped nearer to her, Maria narrowed her eyes,  trying to hide the mischievous glint behind them. “Sneaky,” she started, shaking her head a bit, “But, you are wrong about that. So, ha.”

He glanced away briefly, not wanting to make her too uncomfortable by starting too long. He didn’t want to upset her after all, not after causing such a beautiful smile to appear. He cleared his throat, feeling slightly awkward. Not quite sure how to continue the conversation. “Anyway, it was a pleasure meeting you. I should probably get going. Wouldn’t want to take up too much of your time.”

Maria looked down at the ground nervously when he looked away. She felt like she’d made it awkward. What had she done wrong? She always seemed to make mistakes in situations like this. “Oh.. Okay. I wouldn’t want to keep you too long. Sorry again, for running into you. It was great to meet you, too. I’m Maria, by the way.”

A gentle frown appeared momentarily. It was difficult to believe that a beautiful woman such as her didn’t get drowned in compliments everyday. A shame, really. Hopefully his words and behavior had improved her day slightly. He continued to engage in eye contact, her smiling giving him a good feeling. “I don’t see why you wouldn’t. You seem like a very friendly young lady.”

Maria normally would’ve pulled her gaze away in this moment, she was usually too nervous to hold someone’s eye contact for a long period of time. It made her feel like they were seeing into her mind. But, for some reason she couldn’t seem to break her eyes away from this man’s out of some sort of pull. She felt like she needed to remain looking at him so not to be rude. “Really? Thank you!” she exclaimed, genuinely  thrilled by the compliment. Friendly. That was  what Maria always aimed to be. “I try.”

“Yeah– It’s something pretty worth seeing if you ask me.” He nodded softly, way too focused on the memorie of the octopus to pay much attention to her next set of words. But as soon as they sank in his while body tensed up in a second. “Well– Because you see– As I said, the octopus is hilarious and– you’re hilarious.”

“I think I would like it a lot. Cute things are  some of my favorite things! Like, stuffed  animals. I love those.” Maria was too naive  to really notice the way he tensed up at her  question, but she did notice his slight  awkwardness in answering. “Right. I’m  hilarious. You’re not wrong, I’ll give you that.”  Smiling, she laughed a little and kept he  bouncy mentality.

As soon as their eyes met once again, Ethan’s smile grew wider. Giving a small hop backwards he pressed his hands together and stared at her for a few seconds before finally speaking. “You haven’t seen it? It’s this small octopus that basically looks like the one in finding nemo, but it’s orange and it’s adorable– I mean– yeah it’s hilarious.”

Shaking her head, Maria listened intently as Ethan described the adorable octopus. She instantly perked up a little and felt a smile tugging at her lips. “Sounds like something I need to see. But, wait, that octopus is.. me? How?” Laughing softly, she crinkled her nose again, confused by this whole comparison.

A light chuckle left his lips, eyes carefully set on every action the other made. He hadn’t expected such a reaction, but neither could he say he was dissapointed. As she turned around he moved slowly in order to face her once again. “You’ve seen that new octopus that looks like a cartoon? You’re that octopus, I’m pretty sure of it.”

When Ethan came around her, Maria kept her eyes off of him in an attempt to prove her point and keep with her stubbornness.. But, at this point he had her intrigued. “... Cartoon octopus?” she asked, clearly confused as she made eye contact with him once again. “What in the world are you talking about?”

Maria pouted almost immediately,crossing her arms and letting hergaze fall down towards the floor.That would be a ‘no.’

“Why don’t you believe me? It’s  100 percent true.” There’s a shrug as Ethan’s lips continue to be gracefully covered with a smile. “I told you, it’s too late, you can’t change it miss octopus Maria.”

“But, I’m not an octopus! Just like you’re  not secretly a teenage girl. I think I’d be  able to tell.” She huffed and stomped her  foot quietly grumbling to herself. “I’m not  an octopus..” Pouting still, she turned her  back on him and stared in the opposite  direction, arms still crossed.
