It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining; birds were singing; from a nearby bandit camp, some poor sod was screaming his head off.

Madlen sighed. Helping him out would only be the right thing to do. Besides, no one deserved to meet an end at the blade of a bandit.

The camp was in a perfect position to ambush strangers; their tents stood in the mouth of a cave, partially hidden from the main road below by tall, vicious rocks, and a few stunted trees. Approaching from the top of the slop, the sun beating down on the back of her neck, Madlen had the advantage. The high ground. It would be easy enough, she reckoned, to get a few well-aimed arrows in before the bandits even knew she was there.

On her stomach, feeling the hot, baked stone against her hands as she pulled herself forward to the edge of the overhang, Madlen looked down at the havoc unfolding below, and began to ready her arrow.

Dragon Rising

Diantha cried out in surprise as the ground shook and the strange call came from what seemed to be every direction at once. What in Mara’s name--? She stumbled as the final tremor shook the ground, and everything else, around her. She once again cried out as she landed on her hands and knees, panic and adrenaline coursing through her body. She was so determined this had to be the end of the world, but just as quickly as this strange occurrence happened it stopped.

She looked around in surprise, her wide eyes still full of fear. What had just happened?! Slowly Diantha raised back up to her feet, she wasn’t the only person who had stumbled in the unexpected tremors. Thank the Divines. She watched as a few other people let go of what they had grabbed for support or pull themselves off the ground.

It’s clear to see the look of relief appear on the Bosmer’s features as a bowl of soup and half loaf of bread is set in front of him, the mage offering up a thankful smile to the barmaid before she returns to her rounds. It’d been quite a long and rather busy day for the mer, and currently he was looking forward to relaxing over a good meal for the rest of the evening. Though even with that said, he can’t help but pull out a small notebook and a quill and inkwell as he lets his soup cool for a moment, the Bosmer flipping open to a page and making a few quick marks over it, a quiet sigh leaving his lips that quickly gets lost in the rest of the general tavern noise.

So far reagent collecting had gone rather well, the vast bulk of the plant-based items he’d been tasked with finding currently secure in the satchel under his chair. It was only a few last things from that group that would be a bit more difficult to find, at least not without him going quite far out of his current area. There’s a pause as he takes a spoonful of soup, the mer’s face involuntarily furrowing as he flips to another page. Why they wanted so many skeever tails out of this trip was beyond him, but the mage had offered to do the task, and they had requested it...

Another sigh as the notebook is closed, Cal leaning back in his seat to enjoy the rest of his meal. At least the tavern seemed to be fairly peaceful at the moment, so hopefully he’d be able to spend his evening relatively benignly. Being an elven mage was not exactly easy in current times, and the last thing the mer wanted was to be singled out as he oh so often was.

Jociel had come out of nowhere, jumping in front of her to defend her from an argument with a salesperson that wouldn’t take ‘no thank you’ as an answer. Firstly, here had he come from, and secondly, why in the world was he defending her? She’d only been around him a few times.
