| “This time last year I was exploring the city of Oaxaca MEX, taking in the culture, colours, amazing food and sharing my time with this beautiful Zapotec family - @porfirio_gutierrez_y_familia and @weavingoaxaca. They shared and taught me their ways of an old lineage of Natural Plant Dyeing and Rugweaving unique to their region and family, welcomed me into their home as a friend and dined at their table like a daughter - I almost couldn't believe I had been lucky enough to find them on my travels. My time with them was so incredibly enriching and blessed, I consider them my family and have been watching their journey grow immensely this past year, offering many workshops (and now a homestay for artists), showing at various museum and art galleries, and winning awards for their traditional Zapotec artisan work. I encourage anyone who is traveling through this part of Mexico, or who wishes to deepen their practice of learning traditional ways of textiles, link in with this family - Juana, Antonio, and Porfirio - at @weavingoaxaca - they are doing truly fantastic things and keeping their culture alive through this work.”
