while I'm glad it will be open-sourced, this feels like the end of a small but exciting era that started in 2020. anyone with a basic understanding of a game engine could set up a VR rave, accesible to people without high-end gaming systems.

projects by Datafruits.fm, the Algorave MX community, and Matthew D. Gantt inspired me to create an environment for the (even-shorter lived) Currents.fm, and to work more with 3D tools in general.

The Observation Trail - Update #7

As expected, I had very little time in the past week to work on this - family has to come first and all. That said, it gave my team mates time to get some more of the final models to me and to implement one more little new feature, which is more of a quality of life thing through the game: once the action is completed successfully, the action arrows and everything disappear so that there’s no pointless, glaring orange arrows hovering around after the animal is gone. If we ever want to keep any, it’s just a matter of removing one simple line per object (like the rocks and sticks will probably stay, once the final objects are finished for that, with only their indicator arrows disappearing, but for now, they too disappear just because... well. They’re bright orange. It doesn’t look great to have just sitting there pointlessly, it’s distracting!). That took a bit of finagling, though - I was quite determined to keep the semi-unique IDs so that we could tell things apart in the inspector as needed, so I added class names to select for all the objects, using the same class name of course - but then there was a little bit of searching involved because I had never really had need to use querySelectorAll, rather than the regular querySelector, so figuring out how to affect each selected item took a good couple minutes. Nothing a quick google search couldn’t solve, though! Just a little bit left until we’re ready for beta - a few bugs to squash, a model to finish, another to actually just upload as far as I know. Soon!
