Cutting the cost tip no.3
If you're going to have your cake made professionally (as opposed to by a friend or family member) Ask for them to make the upper tiers from fake cake/polystyrene. It's standard practice for the cakes you see in the window and looks just as beautiful as real cake for a tiny fraction of the cost.
Leave the bottom two tiers as real cake so that you can still have the cake cutting moment. Unless you're having a huge wedding, this should still be enough cake to keep everyone happy too!
