Instructions: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and granulated sugar. Beat until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Divide the cake batter evenly among the prepared pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Once the cakes are completely cool, roll out the gold fondant and create an embossed ribbon border around each layer of the cake.
