Fun fact I learnt this week: maned wolves smell like weed.
No, really—their urine contains high levels of pyrazines, organic compounds which are also found in cannabis. The likeness is so uncanny that, in 2006, Rotterdam police responded to a complaint that someone was lighting up at the zoo, only to find the smell was coming from the maned wolf enclosure.
So, naturally, whenever I smell weed in public now, I say "must be a maned wolf nearby"
