I want a home with wooden floors, white walls, colored shutters,

dogs that sleep next to our bed and wag their tails to wake us up in the morning

earlier than we’d wish, but too joyful to ignore.

I want a home with children who scatter their toys and ideas across the yard,

pleading for a story told, a cookie from the cookie jar, 10 more minutes before bedtime,

pleading for the room and inspiration to grow. 

I want a home that feels like a lantern,

warm and safe and like the worst thing that can happen is running out of matches.
