Are Coupons Better Than Weekly Circulars?
With so many people using coupons these days as compared to 3 to 4 years prior to the recession hitting the United States, people are also searching for as many alternative methods available to try to continue their money-saving habits. Just recently, after giving it a little bit of thought, I realized the potential of weekly circulars when it comes to saving money at the supermarket. Up until a couple of years ago, I used to be one of those super coupon cutting queens as I would look forward to every Sunday so I could cut my favorite coupons out and feel good about myself for saving an extra $25-$35 every shopping trip. It wasn't until I was on a grocery shopping trip and happened to look at the little display that carried the weekly circular from my favorite grocery store that I noticed the obvious; a weekly ad was lying in wait just hoping for somebody to pick it up, and that someone was me!
The moment I picked it up and saw the first buy one get one free offer I was hooked! I had no idea weekly ads had these types of savings and of course, I would run into a special deal here and there at the supermarket without even knowing it ahead of time. As I looked a little further into the weekly circular I noticed that if I combined the buy one get one free and half off deals that I could probably save just as much money as if I used coupons. Pretty soon after that, I learned that by shopping with the weekly ads and combining them with free coupons I could maximize my efforts at the supermarket and save more money than I ever imagined.
So, I guess the answer to that question is that coupons are not better than weekly ads; I think they are equally as important when it comes to trying to save as much money as possible while shopping for groceries. However, I have to give free coupons the edge over the weekly circulars when it comes to shopping for regular retail merchandise at large retail stores.
