Read This Week

The Shadow of The Object: The main character lays on a woman's waterbed and muses over how terrible it is to own a waterbed if your son sank in some sand one time. That's the vibe. 1/5

Penance: Eliza Clark cements her place as an auto-buy author for me with this story of teenage violence and internet culture. 5/5

Northern Lights: Finally tackling this series I never completed as a kid - Northern Lights is one of the best written books of all time, for me. 5/5

A Room Above A Shop: If the Kill Your Gays trope has no haters, well damn, they got me too. 1/5

recently finished:

The Shadow Glass by Rin Chupeco. It was fantastic, and a good end to the trilogy!

currently reading:

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, for my nineteenth century lit class. It’s a reread for me, so it’s going fast. Still enjoyable!

The Ice Puzzle by Catherynne Valente. I’ve been “currently reading” this for weeks but I just read a big chunk of it so maybe I’ll actually finish it soon.

Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell will be my next school reading — I’m pretty excited for it, since I liked North and South.

The L.O.V.E. Club: This made a season of Pretty Little Liars look like a hard hitting docu-drama. Absolutely senseless plot that kept getting more ridiculous. 1/5

Owls Do Cry: Surreal and beautifully told, the way the author took events and people from her own life really enriched the story. 5/5

Read This Week

Dreams Lie Beneath: You may fascinate a man by nearly tearing him to shreds with the spirits of several animal paintings. 4/5

The Notorious Virtues: This book was pushed back so heavily during COVID19 that the UK went through four Prime Ministers and the US went through two rounds of a Trump presidency. 3/5

When The Museum Is Closed: You somehow have to believe that the main character is too shy to speak to people, but is willing to masturbate around several living statues. 3/5

Read This Week

The Prisoner's Throne: Truly a duology that never needed to be written, had zero ideas for the plot, and went absolutely nowhere. 3/5

Temple Fall: This felt like what YA Horror should be, a genuinely unnerving thrill ride. However… it did suffer from a weak ending. 4/5

The Empusium: I get it, Olga wanted to show misogyny only through the lens of centering misogynistic men. However she beat us over the head with the point for 300+ pages. 1/5

Read This Week

The Wall: What if Jon Snow went to the wall in future Dystopian England instead? Seems to be the premise of this book, but for me, it failed to have a point. 3/5

Vanishing World: This book is so subtly clever, by the end turning what I thought was a mediocre "what if?" experiment into a full blown horror. 5/5

Decomposition Book: Finding a New Best Friend in the form of a corpse in the woods is great until you remember that they were a Real Person With Feelings 4/5

Taiwan Travelogue: Colonialism told through the story of Japanese woman's desire to consume Taiwan's culture through their food, this was a slow story to get through. 3/5

Read This Week

The Ending Writes Itself: As long as you're not expecting a murder mystery masterpiece, this story is a lot of fun and I had a great time reading it. 4/5

Aborescence: I truly went from oh! a quirky tree book! to sobbing my way through this entire story. (again) 5/5

The Weeds: They float, a ghost, above the Colosseum, wondering when the hell this book will offer up a satisfying conclusion. 2/5
