Hermittober Week Four (Final Week) - Trickery

The final week! Technically it’s November now, but what kind of weekly challenge would it be if I didn’t wait until the last minute to post. More details about this under the cut!

Once more, this art takes place in the Hermit Hat Atelier AU which me and @activate-shadow-of-the-window have been working together on. They’ve been doing this weekly challenge as well, so go check out their art if you’re interested!

As for the actual piece, the trickery here is Grian’s excessive use of alter egos. To most, Ariana Griande (King Ren’s royal bard / sensational pop idol), and some office worker with a smudged nametag couldn’t be further apart. With Grian’s use of mind-altering magic tied to certain items, he intends to keep it that way.

His headband and nametag are two such items, enchanted to make Griande and his other alter egos unrecognizable as himself. When he removes one, a blinding sequence of sparkling lights surrounds him, allowing him to make a quick change without revealing his true identity. He is not beating the magical girl allegations.

Most of his forms are used for subterfuge, but Permit Grian is unremarkable enough that when things get tough, he gets brought out for the full-fledged attack. The cloaking spells on his nametag are particularly strong, so he doesn’t have to worry about a memorable fight interfering with a later office infiltration.

Final Week Four of Hermittober: Aggression/Trickery!

A clash between a brim and a knight, for unclear but certainly reasonable reasons. Probably.

Fire-Starter, real name Tango, is on the left. His epithet is well earned, since he has focused almost all of his study and resources on perfecting a fire spell that burns indefinitely. He hasn’t succeeded quite yet, but he did invent matches, discover something similar to kerosene, learn how to heal burns, and commit somewhere between fifty and two hundred fifty separate cases of arson. His proudest invention is the pair of staves he wields, each of which is capable of creating flames from either end at will.

Joel, on the right, is a Knights Moralis and voted most-likely-to-get-injured-by-brim-hat-attack. He has an unfortunate tendency to rush straight into battle, ahead of all support and allies, and try to strangle the offending witch with his pennant. Which is, of course, against the rules, but he has the best arrest record of any Knight in the area, so it mostly gets overlooked. Key word being mostly, as whenever he tears up his uniform beyond repair in an ill-advised street bout with some vaguely described shadowy figure, a stern talking and a suspension are almost always waiting for him.

Team Rancher Week Day 3: Genderbent Ranchers/Platonic Ranchers + Hermittober - week 3: Home/Invention

Yes I combine two. Because I pretty much had the same idea for both :p

Week Three of Hermittober: Home/Invention!

The former home of the brim hat known as Tricolor, presently the home of many rats, one cat, and the brim hats Stars and Rupture.

Tricolor, real name Grian, built his first house for form and not function. Why the disconnected tower? He wanted to string a chain of lanterns over a path. The copper roofs, the strange overhangs, and the overabundance of lanterns gives the place a chaotic yet homey feel. Days were spent bleaching rocks into the right colors for a dark-to-light gradient, and way too many trees gave their trunks to make the beams.

Stars, known to his friends as Scott, took up residence here once Grian broke with the brims and left it for nature to reclaim. He’s carved a few new doors into the roofs to accommodate his stargazing habits, and replaced most of the terrible imported acacia furniture with decent oak. At some point the infamous damager of property Rupture ended up living in the detached tower, and Scott hasn’t the heart to kick him out. A few more explosions on the grounds might change his mind…

It’s been a long, long week, so just a simple sketch this time. I’ve wanted to get better at doing buildings for a while now, and what building fits this AU better than Grian’s ‘witch hat’ starter base from Season Nine?

Weekly Hermittober Week Three - Invention!

Another piece of art based on me and @activate-shadow-of-the-window ‘s Hermit Hat Atelier AU! They’re doing this weekly drawing challenge right alongside me, so make sure to check out their art if the AU interests you.

This piece features Mumbo Killsalot Jumbo and his invention- the gun. Don’t let his calm demeanor fool you. Despite being the creator, Mumbo barely has any idea how to use it. He prefers to sell his weapons and leave them for others to use. “Peace Love and Plants” isn’t broken if other people use his inventions for harm, right?

Speaking of other people, to the left of this piece are some of Mumbo’s customers. CuteGuy, who uses Mumbo’s weapons to fight crime. Cub, who Mumbo got to test for him as a trusted craftsman. And Doc, who’s #1 on the list of “People Mumbo Probably Shouldn’t Be Selling Weapons To”, but also one of Mumbo most loyal customers.

You might be thinking, “Wow, this seems super illegal! I wonder how Mumbo is still running a Totally Safe business as a non-brimmed cap?” and the answer to that is Dumb Luck and also it is Worse than you think.

Not only does Mumbo run a business selling illegal contraptions- He’s also a trusted producer of pendants for the Knights Moralis. He has a drastic double life that could easily get him into So Much trouble, but he’s somehow managed to scrape by unnoticed for several years.
