The Phighters celebrating the funny DJ's bday! (April 10)
Happy bday you silly Dj :]
YEAHHHH happy bday funny DJ man :]!!!!
with all your excellent taste and understanding of dc stuff you disliking MAWS is honestly so vindicating for me, been feeling like the lone hater here but the way they've adapted everything has just rubbed me the wrong way, like they tossed out so much of that core Superman-ness (clark & superman seeming as distinct characters, the two-person love triangle, secret identity shenanigans as a whole, all the villains' unique personalities powers and motivations, any supernatural/sci-fi elements that aren't kryptonian, basically all that Foundational Superhero Stuff) and tossed it by the wayside for what ultimately feels like quite a generic sci-fi action show, and there's not Nothing good in there but I was so excited at first and it turned out to be such a disappointment
and honestly I just don't agree with superman being a himbo, sure he's hot and buff and kind but that investigative reporter is Not dumb!
wah thank you, I'm so flattered! Haha
Honestly yeah! MAWS is often praised for how it really "gets" Superman, and that rubs me the wrong way too. I don't think enough people realize that MAWS!Supes represents the shallow idea of being good, without entailing what being good actually means. Throughout the whole show we never learn what informs his heroism or what his ideals even are. At most we'll get vague lip service about "making a more accepting world", but it's not re-enforced by his actions in the show. I think people get so caught up in how MAWS provides an optimistic and perky take on Superman as a rebuttal to recent grimdark takes on his character that it gets mistaken for substance. It's part of how squeamish the show is about getting political.
As someone who drew a 40-page fancomic where "Martian Manhunter's brother is not evil" and "Mars is still alive" I'm all about new takes that challenge the established mythos of a character!! But if the changes are shallow and uninspired and lead to a generic story then why change what works, y'know?
and yes I agree about Clark being himbo-fied! I think they purposely removed his more capable investigative reporter side so that Lois and Jimmy can help him out more. Which is weird because STAS never had to do that to get his cast to support him.
I forgot I took these....
