We were in Granite Falls today so Kimmer could see Dr. Mike. He works out of the dental clinic just east of GF’s main four-way stop.
It’s the continuing saga of Collison-Ris dental care that dates back to when we were first going out. Mostly Kimmer in the dental chair... but I’ve generated my share of appointments as well.
During our first 25, we discovered the need for consistent care. We needed just the one car mechanic, as opposed to seeking out a new one with every automotive mechanical mishap. We needed just the one vet. Just the one doc. Just the one tax accountant.
And when it came to dental care, we needed not only the one dentist... we needed the right one. But that was a tough alignment of planets to achieve. There was some really complex dental stuff going on. Plus, over time, dentists would either move... or retire.
Dr. Mike, though, stepped into the spotlight at a very tricky time of our dental history, figuring out the trickiest of challenges that befuddled others of his profession. He did it with both charm, expertise, determination, and a reasonableness of price. He was committed to the process of dental health and partnered with us as we pursued it.
Thus far, he hasn’t moved.
Nor has he retired.
So he’s the guy, you know?
The only downside of his practice is that he’s out of the country maybe half the time and in super high demand here the rest. We can hardly begrudge his efforts out of country, though. He provides humanitarian aid in 3rd world nations.
Otherwise... he’s a keeper. ;-)
By the way, it was a pretty short appointment. After they took Kimmer into the exam area, I headed out to Granite Falls IGA which is, essentially, out back. There’s a short cut, you see.
I was gonna hang out at their coffee bar that was there the last time we were out here but, come to find out, they’d moved.
Sad face.
Kimmer’s appointment only lasted a half hour, as it turned out. It was a bit of touching base and making plans for a longer appointment at the end of January. So Kimmer jumped into her bug and picked me up from the IGA.
From there, we drove straight to El Paraiso in downtown Everett ‘cause we were both starved and feelin’ woozy. Low bloodsugaring it, basically. We had a nice, impromptu date over nachos ‘n beer. Then, afterward, we walked over to Silver Cup Coffee just down the block to hang out with our friend, Mikey, lead singer of Toarn. He’s Linzy’s brother of another mother and an expert magician with words.
All in all, it was an oddball day, what with kind of a half day of work, a brief dental adventure... but then improvised free time.
Got to appreciate those opportunities whenever they show up.
‘Cause they never disappoint.
