So, some kind of lotion or bath product or sth (not mine) expired/overheated and burst in a box in one of the bedrooms in my house. I disposed of the box and everything in it but it's been days and the artificial fragrance is still pervading the entire house and it's making me really sick. Advice?
My go-to for something like this is to set out bowls of baking soda and try to ventilate the space as much as possible. You can also buy a product called damp-rid from most hardware stores. Traditionally it’s used for getting rid of moisture and damp/mildew smells, but I find it can also help get rid of fragrances in general, just make sure you buy the fragrance-free version.
If the bedroom is carpeted, the smell could be lingering in there, so sprinkle some baking soda on it, leave it for an hour then vacuum. Was the box in a closet? If so could the smell be sticking to the clothes? If so you might need to wash them all, I’m afraid. We had to do that when a vanilla body bath thing someone gave me leaked and permeated everything in my wardrobe :(
