Conestoga Cambridge campus open house, welding and fabrication tech programs. I will be checking out four other schools over the next month.
For those of you who may yet be unaware, I have applied to the top five colleges in my province, to receive my tradesmans tickets initially under the Welding and Metal Fabrication branches.
Those schools would be Niagara, Conestoga, Fleming, Sheridan, and Loyalist.
As of yesterday, I have been accepted into all of them.
Today was my first time visiting proper workshops, complete with tig, stick, and mig; among many other things you would expect to find in a metal working environment. I’m particularly eager to eventually try my hand at plasma cutting. Needless to say, I’m already addicted. The smell of raw heat, metal shavings, and soot is intoxicating in the most exquisite way. The metallurgy or metal testing lab in particular has me champing at the bit.
I can’t wait to find out what the future has in store for my career. While it is still a male dominated industry, my joining the working trades as a female has been met with such enthusiasm and encouragement by older tradesmen I’ve crossed paths with (many who are now retired or will be retiring), I’m confident that any resistance met will quickly fall to the wayside. That first step, however, begins with choosing where to start that journey. Here’s to finding the best fit. 💪👑✨ #College #WeldingStudent #BattleOfTheTrades #GirlsBuyTheirCrowns #WomenMakeTheirOwn #smaw
