That was a good day for the Legion, and for me. Caesar himself took me aside to praise the strategy that brought us victory in a nearby NCR territory. It’s an honor for me to contribute his growing power in the Mojave, to make the Legion greater every day.
I’m one of his best soldiers. Lanius should learn from me, more than I can ever learn from him. He were a man of mere brute strength, only an asset valuable on the battlefield.
I was retiring to my tent that night, when I met the courier.
He looked at me, then at my personal tent behind him: I had this feeling that wasn’t the first time he followed me around camp. I never saw him as a threat.
He didn’t say a word, took a step back and let me pass. It was dark, I couldn’t see his face clearly. I walked on for a couple of steps before stopping in front of him.
I didn’t invite him to follow me in, I didn’t say a single word. My hand lightly touched his, it was merely instinctual, then I immediately moved back and walked into my tent. I felt like I did something terribly wrong, and prayed no one of the patrolling soldiers saw that scene.
I know, my mind was becoming deviated. I wanted that courier in my tent at that exact moment, I wanted him under my complete and total control. I wanted to dominate him, to show him that I am not just a man, but a man of power. A soldier, able to slaughter and enslave, a fine mind that can drive his group to unlimited victories. Tireless, smarter than the others.
A man who someone like you, mailman, should be afraid of.
And then, you came in, “uninvited”.
I could have condemned you on a cross in that exact moment, but all I wanted was to play. And I was delighted to find out you wanted to play as well, by my rules.
