The Three Generations Prize
for Writing about Science, Writing about Social Science
and The Kathryn Wasserman Davis ’28
Art Prize for Writing
The Writing Program invites student submissions for three $300 cash prizes to be awarded for excellent writing on topics in the sciences, social sciences, and writing about art. Please see the attached posters for specific details on each prize.
In reading submissions for these prizes, the judges look for a full and complex argument that is clearly stated and well supported by evidence; argumentation that is accurate and appropriate to the discipline; and a level of diction that is clear and comprehensible to any intelligent reader.
This competition is open to all Wellesley College students.
Papers written during the Spring 13, Fall 13, and Spring 14 semesters, including those written for independent studies or courses taken at another campus, are eligible.
Each student may submit only one paper.
Honors theses are not eligible. A paper being submitted for another prize (e.g. sponsored by a department) is also ineligible. Similarly, a student may not submit the same essay for two Writing Program competitions.
How to enter
Please submit the paper along with a cover letter that contains your name, class, and campus address; the name of the professor and course for which you wrote the paper; a brief description of the assignment and the date the paper was submitted. Send submissions as e-mail attachments to the applicable prize-specific e-mail address (see individual posters for addresses) by noon on Friday, April 4th.
