Lilah Torres â–ª Twenty Six â–ª AP English at Reina Adelia Academy
âžµ Before The Rising
Lilah has always been well-mannered, hard-working and destined for greatness. She knows how to put on a smile, and a show, and charmed her way through high school and college. When she landed her first teaching job at her mother's alma matter, Reina Adelia Academy, she was ecstatic to be working with the Advanced Placement English Literature students. It was exciting to hear students call her 'Miss Torres' and to hear the other faculty members address her as a colleague rather than a student. She'd spent hours studying various works of literature, writing and publishing and was eager to share her knowledge with her new students. Even though some of them needed more time than others, Lilah's patience and easy-going nature let her follow through to make sure her students not only understood her lessons, but enjoyed them as well.
âžµ After The Rising
Lilah had volunteered to stay at Reina Adelia when the news of the disease had spread and found herself stuck there as The Rising occurred. Her family, well-off from old money, told her that they had escaped to a hidden piece of family land and would be safe from The Rising and the disease. They did not, however, tell her where it was before they were disconnected. At first, Lilah felt lost and alone. All of the hours she'd spent studying and learning literature seemed useless in a world so bleak. Education and money didn't matter any more and that's all Lilah had come to know. Still in shock, she did her best to calm the other survivors in the Wells River group when she could and discourage any arguing or quarrels that arose. She still isn't sure what she has to offer to the new world they have to survive in, but she knows she has to figure something out. There isn't a lot of food left and she's fearful that they might try to get rid of anyone who might not be pulling their weight in the group.
âžµ Thoughts on Fort Rain
Skeptical of leaving their safe place in Wells River, Lilah was one of the few Wells River survivors who voted to stay at Reina Adelia and not seek out Fort Rain. While she doesn't deny that the idea of a camp full of other survivors is comforting to say the least, she doesn't think the trip is going to be worth the time, sacrifice or the risk. But she was in the minority opinion and knows that they are going on the trip, no matter what. She's still not comfortable with it, but she can respect the group's decision. Even if it makes her uneasy.
