From the most recent #wellymixpack comes “Not A Word Spoken,” an apricot infused IPA. Even though I’ve sat on this beer longer than I should have, I have high hopes for this particular brew. Using apricot in conjunction with the correct hops makes for a symbiotic pairing in complimentary heaven. On the nose, sharp tropical fruits notes of papaya and pineapple. It pours with a somewhat gloppy-hazy body that drinks thick but not chunky. The apricot pushes through, on my palete, in more of a dried apricot kind of flavor. It’s not juicy and it’s clearly being overpowered by whatever amount of hops live in this beer. Speaking of which, the hop character is sticky and pungent with a slightly bready malt backbone. This beer tastes like It should be boozy on your tongue, even though it’s not. A great IPA for your inner hophead.
