Delighted to report that Ms. Helen Sturkie’s surgery went very smoothly at @medicalcenterforbirds 🙌 A great hug thanks to Dr. Galusha and Dr. Baden for taking such excellent care of our very sweet girl and to @rachaelstpeter @airric6 and @cgleee for helping with transport and care! They were able to get very deep into her foot and pull out old, hardened kernels of puss that were lodged in her tissue. They also removed some scar tissue, cultured the infection, and stitched up the hole in her foot. The culture showed a super resistant e.coli bacteria, so she received a regional limb perfusion this morning and will continue with both those treatments and oral antibiotics as well. If you’d like to help cover her care, we still need to raise about $1500 to cover the surgery cost as well as funds for her continued limb perfusions/antibiotic treatment.
