Colorist Breakdown: Featuring Jam Jimenez of welovepost

Mention that you’re a colourist to anyone from outside the production world, and they might think you work in a hair saloon.

Jam recently had a chance to work with director Paul Basinilio on one of his latest commercials for Filipino distillery, Tanduay, shot with players from the Philippines Basketball Association (PBA).

Jam commented on the shots and the colour grading process: "Because the footage for this job was extremely well-shot, very little had to be done to get it to look proper. Once we got initial color correction out of the way, The director, Paul Basinilio, and I really started to play with the material. We were confident in making it really punchy and the RED material held up well, preserving only the details that we wanted to preserve and hiding everything else in deep but smooth shadows."

"The Resolve system allowed us to work with such a level of precision that we were sometimes debating on how many millimeters left or right of the subject’s cheekbones we should start to really crush the shadow"
