Let's focus on Austria🇦🇹 today, shall we? Have you ever heard about Welschriesling? Or maybe it sounds more familiar to you as Riesling Italico? A refreshing variety that I will talk about soon on my blog but I want to mention now, it has not much to do with the well-known Riesling variety. It is a brand new vintage by Weingut Schauer @schauer_styrianwinegrower a 2020 from Südsteiermark DAC. It has a pale lemon color with silver hue and a medium viscosity. The nose is very green with green apples, freshly cut grass, lemon, lime, white peaches and white blossom flowers. A pleasant dry wine, medium plus acidity, medium alcohol and a light body with a little spritz left in the bottle. The flavours are similar than the one on the nose (lime, green apple, white peaches) with medium plus lenght. It is a good quality wine which best to drink while it's young, 1-2 years after harvest when it is cooled down to 8-10 °C. A pleasant sip on its own during summer time or as a spritzer with some sparkling water. If we want to pair it next to food, we need something really light and refreshing like raw fish, oysters, a scallop carpaccio or tartare for example.
