This year was the 49th annual Wendy's College Classic. This tournament is for both the men's and women's teams in the Rochester area. Roberts Wesleyan Lady Redhawks were the No. 2 seed going into this tournament.
Roberts Wesleyan starts the tournament off with a win (68-56) against RIT in hopes to make it to the finals on Saturday, December 6, 2014.
This win will advance the No. 2 Redhawks to the semifinals on Thursday where they will face No. 3, Geneseo, at 8:00 p.m.
The Redhawks started out with a bang and led the Tigers 13-4 within minutes of the first half. The Tigers began to claw their way back to the top when Taylor Burns hit a 3 and brought the score to 23-22, with the Redhawks still leading.
Marissa Maiorano, former Redhawks player, and Taylor Burns each ended the game with double doubles to led the Tigers. Maiorano had 12 points and 16 rebounds, Burns put up 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Samantha Courtney, forward, led the Redhawks with 16 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, four assists, and one steal. Courtney was 50 percent from the free throw line and 70 percent from the field. Freshmen Brooke Fields and Lucy Covley each added 10 points.
This win puts the Redhawks at a 2-1 overall record.
