kal skirata does get scared of the nulls. he smiles, tells himself they're his boys that he trained, that he can see himself in them. sometimes he can't, and comes face to face with the ugly and frightening and lab-designed-and-tested Other. he remembers he does not know them as well as he would like to believe. and takes a deep, slow, breath.
#I think he projects onto them to fill the gaps that cant be filled#not that he doesnt attempt to understand them or meet them where theyre at- but it's not universal enough to be truly effective#which translates into more fear for kal when they force him to confront the dissonance between what theyre like and what he decided they#were like#yk?#he's able to emotionally connect with them better than anyone else. but he's also so blind#he's bad at accepting things that dont make sense to him. he's bad at accepting some things dont exist where he assumes they would#he always needs an answer. very constricting#and he's also more likely to interpret a push against his codepency and enmeshment w them as a threat#such is the life of a very good terrible father.
