Wolf Spirit
Connor, the one person who motivates you all the time to complete your mission as quickly as possible and get back to the one you love. But you're in for a surprise when you return. Your beloved Assassin is nowhere to be found, and no one knows where he's gone.
You were on a ship heading to America. You had to leave that beautiful place for a mission in your home country, specifically London. You were happy there, but you had to leave because of your heritage.
London was ruled by the Templars, and it was getting harder every day for you as an Assassin to survive there. That's why your mentor sent you to America.
In America, you met Connor Kenway, an Assassin who successfully beheaded the Templars like nobody's business. Besides, there weren't many of them.
You bumped into each other by chance, gathering information about the situation and a Templar that Connor was targeting. The Assassin was very reticent, but you hit it off during this mission where you worked together. You got along perfectly, and he even let you move into his mansion that he inherited from Davenport.
You felt like there was something more between you two. Connor could be shy at times, but he never refused a hug. He walked you to the ship and made sure that you were in good hands to make sure you had a good sail. You promised to write to each other regularly, but the Assassin only wrote to you once. You were a little sorry, but you didn't mind.
Plus, he kissed you goodbye. Or rather, you kissed him. However, he looked at you, took your hands and swore he would wait for you to come back and kissed it gently. His cheeks may have been red, but that was a step forward.
The ship finally arrived at a small harbor where you could see Connor's mansion on the hill and his ship rocking peacefully on the waves. He took you out to sea with it a few times. You couldn't wait to see your shy Assassin.
You were among the first on land, but you never saw Connor. Did he forget or not get your letter? That didn't sit well with you. He was shy, but thoughtful.
You looked around to see if you could spot him, but he was nowhere to be seen. You headed for the building when you ran into Myriam, who was glad to see you again after all this time.
"Y/N, how nice to see you. How was the journey?" She asked.
‘A bit long,’ you smiled. "Have you seen Connor? He was supposed to pick me up here," you asked her. This was a small area, and everyone here functioned like one big family.
‘I'm afraid we haven't heard from him in over a month,’ she shook her head, and you could tell it was bothering her too. It gave you a little pause, and worry settled in your heart.
You chatted with Myrian for a few more moments before heading to the mansion. You thought maybe you'd find him there, but to no avail. After unpacking your things, you decided to ask around. But no one had seen him in over a month.
It was a risk of being an assassin, but you didn't want to admit that it was possible. Connor was strong, capable, able to use his surroundings to his advantage... He couldn't be dead, could he?
You immediately pushed that thought away and made it your mission to find out what happened to him. First, you decided to explore the surrounding forest. The Assassin liked to hang out there, and was capable of spending the night.
The first place you explored was his home village. You were glad you knew a little of his native tongue, but it was still difficult. Eventually, you discovered that he hadn't been seen there either.
You thought you'd searched the entire area. You scaled high cliffs and explored hidden caves. He was nowhere to be found. It's as if the earth has descended upon him.
Instead of an assassin, you came across rumours of a giant wolf that had appeared in the forest at the time of Connor's disappearance. You wondered if there might be a connection.
By all accounts, the wolf was almost as big as a bear. But no one saw him properly, because he was as shy as the animals he was hunting. He did kill the occasional cow or sheep, but it was so rare that it didn't bother the surrounding farmers.
You decided it was worth investigating. Along the way, you came across wolf tracks that were much larger than normal wolves. It had to be him. You followed these tracks all the way to the big lake where you and Connor used to go. That's where the tracks disappeared.
You sat on a big rock and enjoyed the view. You remembered all the times you spent here together.
After a while, you decided to go back. You jumped off the rock when you noticed a big brown bear coming out from behind the trees.
You automatically reached for your seax and slowly tried to walk around the bear. However, the bear stood on its hind legs and threatened to attack you at any moment.
The bear swung its paw and you jumped behind it. You wanted to jump on him and get him like Connor used to do when a giant wolf came out of nowhere and knocked the bear down.
The wolf was as big as the bear itself. It had dark brown fur and had strange red markings on it. He had three on his ribs, two on one paw and only one on the other. Moreover, these marks ran from his eyes across his cheeks.
Kind of reminded you of the war tattoos that Connor's tribe used. Plus, the wolf had unnaturally blue-grey eyes.
It was a short fight and the bear soon took to flight. The wolf looked at you and you felt like you were looking into the eyes of someone you knew. You stood up better and twigs crackled under your feet. At that moment, you seemed to break the moment and the wolf ran off into the woods.
You stood outside on the balcony, wondering what to do next. It was already dark and the silver moon glittered over the water. You leaned on your hand and looked out.
It was quite late and you were thinking of going back inside to sleep when the giant wolf emerged from the forest and walked to the cliff where he sat down. Under the moonlight, you felt as if the markings on his body glowed with a dim blue light.
You threw your coat over your shoulders and walked out. You had a nagging feeling that Connor's disappearance was somehow connected to this wolf. Thinking back to your encounter by the water, you felt as if their eyes were the same.
You stepped outside and slowly walked towards the wolf. You stopped a few feet in front of him. You hesitated to approach. You took a step away and accidentally stepped on something that crackled loudly in the silent night.
The wolf turned to look at you before running and jumping at you. You ended up on your back and the wolf was standing over you. He growled at you, and in any other case it would have meant your end, but not now. Up this close, you got the impression that you had finally figured out why he was so familiar to you.
‘Connor,?’ you asked weakly, and he stopped growling and started sniffing you. Slowly, you raised your hand to him when a shot rang out. The wolf instantly stiffened before taking off running.
You scrambled to your feet and looked at the man with the rifle who was holding the sentry. You wanted to scold him, but there was no time for that at the moment. Instead, you ran after the wolf. You called his name, but he didn't respond.
‘Ratonhnhake:ton!’ you tried calling his birth name. He finally stopped and looked back at you. You felt as if something had changed in him.
‘Ratonhnhake:ton!’ You exclaimed more gently. You saw him turn his ears towards you. Slowly, you took a few steps towards him. However, he lowered his ears, whimpering something before taking off again. You felt like he finally recognized you.
He was faster, but you managed to track him to the ancestral cave and the cave where his mother first kissed his father. Where they realized how they felt about each other.
You entered the cave and were grateful for its wide entrance, which let in plenty of light. Plus, it was pretty shallow.
You called out to him again and noticed movement on the other side of the cave. As you approached, you finally got a glimpse of the giant wolf crouching in the corner, trying to appear as small as possible.
‘Ratonhnhake:ton, it's me, Y/N,’ you spoke calmly as you slowly walked towards him. You knelt down just in front of him and let him sniff you. Finally, he leaned closer to you and let you hug him. He rested his head on your shoulder and you felt him wrap one paw around you.
"I can't tell you how glad I am to have found you. I was worried something had happened to you," you whispered to him as your hand ran through his thick fur.
As you cuddled, you noticed the markings on his body turn blue until the light completely engulfed him. You felt him change in your arms. When the light finally passed, you were hugging a man instead of a wolf. And to prove how much you loved him, you hugged him even tighter until you were afraid you'd squeeze the life out of him.
When you finally pulled away from him, you noticed how some of his wolf markings remained. There were wolf ears sticking out of his loose hair, a wolf tail, and similarly markings.
Connor opened his mouth to say something, but all that came out of his throat was something between a growl and a whimper.
'“After that, you'll have to explain it all to me,”' while you cupped his cheeks. This close, you noticed his now sharp teeth and eyes that had a bright blue tint, like his tattoos when he sat on the cliff.
'W...will you... leave...me?' He asked croakily, between a growl and a whimper. He took your hand and looked into your eyes. Now more than ever, he reminded you of a lost puppy.
‘Do you want me to leave you?’ You asked him, even though you knew the answer. Connor shook his head and growled something unintelligible.
"So you see. If I wanted to leave and abandon you, I wouldn't have come all the way back across the ocean to here," you explained with a slight smile, stroking his cheek.
‘Y/N...’ he said, trying to concentrate on saying it right. ‘...Konnorónhkhwa,’ he said in his native tongue.
You knew what it meant, since you had learned his language from him. You didn't care originally, but it meant a lot to him and was a way to bond with him. But he never told you directly like that.
‘I love you too,’ you said, kissing him on the lips. When you pulled away, you noticed the tears streaming down his cheeks. You wiped the tears from his cheeks and pulled him close to you. You finally found him and you weren't going to let him go.
