my puppy
EXCERPT FROM CH1:
Mafuyu had been reading a novel when the scent of blood caught her attention. It was faint, clearly far away, but the skilled nose of a vampire could catch it quickly.
Luckily, she had fed recently, so it hadn't sent her into a crazed hunt mode. Mafuyu closed her book, curious. It wasn't human blood; it was something different. Something more.. enticing. Intrigued, she turned and entered the shadows looming in her library.
She emerged in the forest, the smell noticably closer. Mafuyu turned to follow it, only to see a blur of white heading towards her. The creature caught sight of her and skidded to a halt, snow flurrying up around them.
It was a girl around her same age, perhaps younger, her teeth bared as she snarled. Her gaze was full of suspicion and fear, wolf ears pinned back against her head as her tail lashed side to side.
A werewolf...?
She was hunched on all fours, blood and dirt coating her pale clothes and even paler skin. An arrow jutted out of her shoulder, causing more crimson to spread slowly into her shirt.
Their eyes met, and the werewolf slightly relaxed as her posture grew less defensive.
Someone shouted in the distance, and the girl bristled once more. Her head snapped around to growl, but it delved into a whimper as she saw the men approaching.
Deciding quickly, she wrapped her arms around the girls waist while she was distracted and hoisted her up, leaping into the shadows as she was in her own manor once again.
The werewolf immediately wriggled itself free, snarling as she clamped down on Mafuyu's hand to make her let go. She let a noise of irritated surprise, shoving the werewolf away.
It scampered to the corner, curling into itself and tending to its wounds. It's skin was caked with dirt and blood. Mafuyu's eye twitched as she watched her lap at the open, weeping wounds.
"I saved your life, and that's how you repay me?"
Mafuyu huffed, but there was no bite behind it. After all, she could take this pitiful mangy mutt out in moments.
But the girl was quietly weeping now, clearly remorseful as she sank back into the corner of the entryway. Her tail tucked between her legs as her entire frame shook with fear. She mumbled something Mafuyu didn't quite catch, and hesitated when the vampire asked her to repeat it.
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry.. please— please don't hurt me."
She shook harder when Mafuyu approached, kneeling down as she showed Kanade her hand. Watching the wolf girl violently flinch back at such a subtle movement made Mafuyu's heart twist as she realized what was going on.
