Surprise wasn’t something she experienced very often but the sight of the visitor on her doorstep was definitely a surprise. “Well, well, well.” She leaned on the door jam and smiled, but it wasn’t a warm look. Not exactly. It wasn’t the look that would get somebody killed but she looked at him more as a curiosity than anything else. “I thought you were dead.”

I dunno how anybody can believe in karma when Strucker’s still out there. And the twins ain’t any better. But Werner had the guts to walk away. He’s doin’ his best to clean up his act, to be better for his daughter’s sake. And I respect that.”

“Safe house,” Jane said. “Think you can sit up, or d’you need help?” She put a bottle of water down beside the mattress and offered him a hand. “Sarah’s asleep,” she added. “She was pretty upset when I brought you back and she saw what shape you were in, but I managed to convince her to get some rest.”
