To say Lani was surprised by the outcome of the auction was a definite understatement. Completely taken aback summed it up a whole lot better. In fact, as she waited, leaning back against the door of the car she’d rented, she tried to run over the possible reasons as to why Wesley would ever bid on her, when supposedly he was back together with Maddie. The thought caused something to drop in the bottom of her stomach, her gaze lowering down to the floor, as if she could find whatever it was there and put it out of its misery. With her gaze averted though, Lani missed the sound of him approaching and was startled when she noticed him there, “Hey... Thanks for bidding on me.” She straightened, trying for a smile, “Why did you bid on me, anyways?”
