Bushed Radio
The idea to host a radio show called “Bushed” came from experiencing what host Marina Osmond assumes is “cabin fever” from years of living across the Yukon River in Dawson City’s off grid community, West Dawson.
While isolated from town during the freeze and thaw of the Yukon River, she would listen to music, podcasts and the radio to stay in touch with reality. Tuning into the local radio station, CFYT, from Wednesday to Sunday was something she looked forward to. It was important to her to keep up with public service announcements, local musicians, and broadcasted community events while she remained cut off from Dawson City.
Bushed began broadcasting at Dawson City’s local radio station, CFYT on October 4, 2018.
Her dream of having a co-host was answered in August 2019 when Paul Stintzi joined the radio show. He is quick at coming up with good puns, one-liners, and themed playlists when she has creative blocks.
Marina promises to tell a secret to her listeners if they stay tuned for the whole hour of Bushed. She has been approached about her infamous pee bucket secret and flying squirrel drama in public and usually regrets sharing these private details of her life over the radio.
Her “Songs and History of Dolly Parton” in March 2019 has been her favourite and most talked about show.
Follow us on Facebook to read Paul’s puns and see Marina’s good/bad art about their radio show and life in West Dawson.
You can tune into Bushed radio every Sunday from 6 pm - 7 pm on CFYT 106.9 FM or stream live at http://cfyt.ca/player/This is a preview of your story.
