What Could’ve Been

Dressed in her white padded uniform and her helmet draped over her head, Dorinda practiced her Passata Sotto and her Remise  with intense power as she anxiously waited for her new student to arrive. It felt...odd staying in the palace again after so many years away, yet incredibly familiar to her. She hated how she always felt nervous when she was here, as if it hadn’t been her home for over a decade. She felt like a stranger, even though she knew it was only because she had become one to this family.

She let out a gasp when the doors finally opened even though she expected it, and men who she only could imagine were guards escorted the princess to her presence. “Your Highness,” She bowed, putting her sword behind her back. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you. My name is Dorinda Iversen, and I’ll be your new instructor.”

{♔} —- Hans could sense the excitement inside of Emberly. It was like a growing fire, one that called to Hans’ own magic, and filled the entire room with a bright, happy warmth.

Her fires were glowing so strongly, in fact, to she must not have sensed her father’s approach. As Hans entered the room, she did not turn around in greeting–and as he stepped closer and closer to her chair, she didn’t acknowledge him at all. She simply smiled to herself, completely distracted by her paper and pen.

At last, Hans was close enough to peer over Emberly’s shoulder. He didn’t think she would mind–after all, the two of them didn’t have any secrets. Their bond of flame made things difficult to conceal; Hans could always tell when his daughter was angry or happy, excited or sad, and Emberly almost always knew when her father was lying.

But Hans’ own excitement drained away when he saw to whom Emberly was writing. Kael. That village boy.

A deep swell of anger and regret flared inside of Hans’ chest, and at last Emberly noticed him. She whirled around, her face flushed red as she tried to conceal the letter.

“Dearest…” Hans said, uncertain of where to begin. “Surely you don’t mean to send such a letter? Those words could be used to blackmail you! You’re a princess, and you need to be careful with your reputation.”

This was the fifth of Sitron’s children, in fact–a happy, healthy little filly who looked every inch like her sire. One day, she would be big enough for Emberly to ride; but for now, the foal wobbled on spindly legs, eager to explore her surroundings.

Hans cannot decide how to handle the whole “Maggie might be permanently blinded” thing in the Princess Matchmaker Verse. It’s basically come down to two choices:

I think Hans should use her daughter's natural charm to approach Anna

{♔} —- “Won’t Anna consider that a little… underhanded?” Hans worried. “I admit, it does paint a charming picture; Emberly, her hair done up in ribbons, running up to Anna with a rose in hand… She’d invite Anna to dine with me, and Anna would hardly be able to say no…!”

The King ran an anxious hand through his hair.

“But that seems terribly deceitful! Anna would be cornered into accepting, and she’d resent me for using my own daughter so ruthlessly! No, coming from another man, the gesture might be sweet… But coming from me, I fear it will be taken all wrong…”

Why I like them: EMBERLY IS THE CUTEST OKAY? Also I love seeing how my Hans acts as a father, and Emberly is the perfect child for him to spoil.

Why I don’t: I love her.

Favorite scene: I really like moments when Emberly is celebrating Hans’ birthday, or otherwise showering her father with affection. It reminds me that the spoiling kind of goes both ways; Hans dotes on his daughter, but then that love is returned and she dotes on him! That kind of genuine, reciprocated love is something Hans never experienced as a child, and so being loved by his own child melts his frozen heart.

Favorite line: “Daughters are more difficult than wars.” [x]

Favorite outfit: Probably this one or this one! Emberly always dresses really well anyway, so all of her outfits are fabulous.

OTP: Emberly/THE THRONE, to be honest. I think that she’s super cute with Kael, and her childhood crush on Kristoff was really sweet, but I share Hans’ opinion that I want to see her become a Queen before I see her become a wife. Of course, Emberly is only human, so she’s allowed to have feelings and romances, but I ship her with the throne more than any person.

Brotp: EMBERLY AND MAGGIE, BEST FRIENDS FOREVER.

Headcanon: Even though Emberly begged her father not to grow a beard, she’s the first one to compliment his new facial hair when he grows it out.

Unpopular opinion: Umm… I don’t think I have any…

A wish: I hope that Emberly becomes a kind and glorious Queen. :’D
