While it’s difficult to consider classical Greek thought in a modern context, the prevalence of gender stereotypes in classical Greek thought can be a source of new enlightenment for feminists because many of them have been present in society for as long as they exist and possibly earlier. When reading the texts, it’s impossible to explain away the treatment of women. And this article suggests, that the richness of Aristotle for women might actually be in the negative and defaming statements he makes.
