Experienced to be city guide
What is the main urgency of hiring city guide? It’s more than a jod that facilitate us as tour guide to just hang out, walk, or have fun. It’s a part of tourism. Status quo shows many foreigners consider Indonesia as a right destination to travel or to spend the time for holiday. It was my 2nd time to be city guide, I got it from The Center one of my favorite English community. If u ask me, is it easy to be city guide? Is it the smallest job? It may seem a piece of cake, but we need very basic knowledge how to be service-oriented city guide. I’m not perfect city or tour guide but let me share what I’d been go through when I accompanied my tourist the whole days. Confident, energic, and having public speaking skills are necessary in being city guide. As long as u’ve got it, ur guests will be comfortable and the trip will be beyond fun. U can only make people sure about urself if u’re convincing. Don’t forget to take a deep breath at least 20 times a day to clean ur lungs, and for sure as guide u need to be aware about cleaness. Public speaking skills can be done by influence ur guest psychologically, such as go asking them some question, be brave anough to do what they want u to do, or use eyes-contact, then it’s extremely important. Nice city guide will pay attention to small things, take example u can ask “do ur tourists have jetlag for time being” or “do they have serious allergic?”. We don’t only mean to be hired but also to hold big responsibility over the tourist. After that, to be city guide u must know the route of public transportation, and the location of some places like shopping center, restaurant, or hospital. Don’t be panic if u think u don’t know where it is, go surfing by internet. Every problems have its own solution. Make sure u have a chat during ur trip, make them feel wanted and happy. U can make any jokes, or ask about their life in their countries. Personally, I’ll explain a few problems in my city and give them solution like when we’re in crowded place, for example in alun-alun I’d like to say “be careful ur bag”. Get them protected is crucial thing too. This time was different. I guided Shelby and Kristen when it’s not fasting month but now it’s. First thing first, let them know, in Indonesia the atmosphere of fasting is big then be agile enough to choose a place where ur tourist can eat.My tourist understood that much, but what made me feel a little bit worried was they didn’t wanna eat before we also ate. I said to them “hey guys u could buy some snacks or anything if u feel hungry”. It seemed not a big deal for them not to eat but I knew at that time they’re hungry. We had fun that day although one of my tourist Frances got an accident when I was not there. But now she gets better.
